May 8, 2023
NEW YORK - RISE, the national nonprofit coalition of major U.S. sports leagues and media networks that uses sports to eliminate racism and champion social justice, is proud to announce that it has partnered with Skyline High School to host a RISE Game on May 9, 2023 at Skyline, as a part of the evening's competition against Ann Arbor Huron High School.
The RISE game will honor and celebrate girls Junior Varsity and Varsity soccer players and coaches from Skyline High School that have shown hard work and commitment to RISE programming and highlight the impact it has made. This Spring, RISE and Skyline High School will have completed two additional RISE multi-week leadership programs. These two programs bring Skyline HS girls and boys soccer to a total of 14 RISE multi-week programs completed over the last three years, including six within the girls team specifically.
These programs focus on a variety of issues, including identity, bias, microaggressions, civic engagement, inclusive leadership, privilege, community building and more.
"We are proud of the partnership we have built with Skyline High School the last three years,” said RISE Senior Director of Programming Scott Koenning. “The impact that this program has had on the participating students and coaches has been very positive and we look forward to hosting this event to celebrate their accomplishments.”
“Our players within the Skyline Soccer program have benefited greatly from our partnership and work with RISE,” said Skyline High School Girls Varsity Soccer Head Coach Christopher Morgan, “We truly appreciate the passion that each lesson is delivered with. Our personal and team growth has been an extremely rewarding experience to be a part of. Having courageous conversations, like the ones within RISE, has helped pull our teams together and bond in a much deeper manner. Our student-athletes are using sport to become agents of change and champions of social justice!”
