Building Bridges Through Basketball
RISE teamed up with the Jr. NBA to develop Building Bridges Through Basketball programs, as part of the NBA Voices initiative.
The 10-week leadership program aims to build stronger communities, using basketball to break barriers. It engages youth and coaches from local community organizations, such as the Boys & Girls Clubs and Police Athletic League, and members of local law enforcement in weekly 2.5-hour sessions featuring a combination of on-court basketball programming and hands-on learning developed by RISE focused on leadership, conflict resolution, identity and diversity.
Chicago – RISE partnered with the Jr. NBA and Under Armour for two seasons of the 10-week program at Union League Boys & Girls Clubs with members of the Chicago Police Department. The first season took place from June through August 2017, and the second season was from March through May 2018.
Detroit – RISE partnered with the Detroit Pistons and Detroit Police Athletic League for a 10-week program (October to December 2017) with members of the Detroit Police Department. The second season also includes participants from Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan and is taking place at S.A.Y. Detroit Play Center from October through December 2018.
Los Angeles – RISE partnered with the Jr. NBA, Under Armour and Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles for a 10-week program (January through April 2018) at Challengers Boys & Girls Club with members of the Los Angeles Police Department.
